The Durban Youth Council had the privilege of attending and managing a stand at the Sustainable Living Exhibition this past weekend (15/08/2015), held at the Durban Exhibition Centre. The Sustainable Living Exhibition is an annual event sponsored by the eThekwini Municipality, aiming to showcase different organizations and companies that contribute to a sustainable future in South Africa.
There were over 250 exhibitors, and the stands at the exhibition displayed many topics about sustainable living, from art and dance to plant life and environmentally friendly initiatives. Our Environmental and Infrastructure committee showcased some of their projects, and members of the Executive Board informed visitors about the DYC and youth empowerment. Many visitors came to learn about DYC and get in touch with us about future collaborations over the three days.
On Sunday, Mayor Trevor Bishai and Deputy Mayor Oliver Brouckaert got the opportunity to give a short talk about DYC and youth empowerment on the main stage, which was a fantastic opportunity to talk to the public about the Durban Youth Council. It was a great weekend, and we are already looking forward to next year's exhibition!
